Get to Know Us
Whilst travelling and working with a youth group in Tanzania, I had the pleasure of meeting the Makonde woodworkers. As an apprentice carpenter myself in France, I was stunned by their stoic craftsmanship and felt it needed to be recognised. Recognised and shared.
So I built this business to connect the woodworkers with clients here in Europe and do what I can to improve the lives of these artists. When you buy artwork from this website, the money goes directly to the Makonde artists to support their families.
TANZANIA
A beautiful country, shored by the Indian ocean and bordering Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Mozambique. Tanzania is the home of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti national park. Sadly, 26 million people in Tanzania are in extreme poverty meaning they live on under $1.90 per day.
Tanzanians account for 3.6% of the world's poorest people and the number is growing. Only 76% of Tanzanians are literate and the average age of the population is just 19, due to poor healthcare and disease.
